CHICAGO - Monica Chavolla, a senior midfielder at Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights, Ill., has signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar women's soccer program. Chavolla, who also hails from Chicago Heights, had a standout prep soccer career at Bloom Township High School under the direction of Kelly Gutierrez. She earned her team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) award as well as a spot on the Chicago Fire/Southtown Star All-Area Team.

Chavolla is the daughter of Benjamin and Ramona Chavolla of Chicago Heights. SXU women's soccer coach Jeremy Ekeler is excited about the wide variety of attributes that Chavolla will bring to the Cougar roster in 2011.

"Monica has the potential to make an impact on this year's team for a number of reasons," said Ekeler. "She has great vision, a real sense of field awareness and a very strong skill set. However, I think the one thing that will carry her the farthest in our program is her incredible work ethic. Monica had an outstanding prep career garnering all-sectional and all-conference honors all four years as well as being named the Chicago Red Stars/Southtown Star Soccer Player of the Week in 2010. She is a tremendous student and we look forward to the things she will bring to our program."
