CHICAGO - Andreas (AJ) Pfatschbacher, a senior goalkeeper at Harry D. Jacobs High School in Algonquin, Ill., has signed a letter of intent to continue both his athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar men's soccer program. Hailing from West Dundee, Ill., Pfatschbacher played prep soccer under former SXU men's soccer defender and alumnus A.J. Cappello ('07), who currently serves as varsity boy's soccer coach at H.D. Jacobs High School.
Pfatschbacher is the son of John and Betsy Pfatschbacher of West Dundee. He plans to study social studies and secondary education starting this fall. Saint Xavier University men's soccer coach Ed Vucinic loves the intangibles that Pfatschbacher brings to the roster and feels that he has all the key skills to help the program in a variety of ways over his collegiate career.
"AJ is a great signing for us," said Vucinic. "On the surface, he solidifies our goalkeeping situation as a solid No. 2 option, while possessing the talent and drive to challenge our returning starter. Outside of that, AJ brings all those intangibles that every team needs and every coach loves. Great passion for the game, fantastic work ethic, desire and drive to succeed at a high level in all he does. He will definitely help us in many ways over the course of his time here."
