Whiting, Ind. - Limited to just four hits and an unearned run, the No. 6 seeded Saint Xavier University baseball team dropped its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Baseball Tournament day two match-up with No. 4 seed Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.), 5-1, Wednesday afternoon at Oil City Stadium in Whiting, Ind. Trailing 5-0 heading into the top of the ninth, the Cougars scored their lone run of the game on a wild pitch with two outs that scored freshman right fielder Chris Klein (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) from third base. Sophomore right hander Mike Stirling (Thornton, Ill./Mount Carmel) took the loss (7-2) on the mound for SXU throwing all eight innings and allowing eight hits, five runs (all earned) and four walks with a pair of strikeouts.
Saint Xavier (28-26-1 overall/19-11 CCAC) will play at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, against the loser of tonight's tournament game between No. 2 seed University of St. Francis (Ill.) and No. 3 seed Judson University (Ill.). If the Cougars survive tomorrow morning's match-up, then they would advance to play at 7 p.m. Thursday in another elimination game.
