Des Moines, Iowa - Freshman Megan Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) and junior Amie Brown (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) combined to allow just six hits and no earned runs in a pair of wins for the No. 19 ranked Saint Xavier University softball team Saturday at Grand View University (Iowa) in Des Moines, Iowa. The Cougars (30-12 overall) were originally scheduled to play four weekend games, two against Grand View University (Iowa) and two with William Penn University (Iowa), but Friday's showers allowed for only one game against each opponent on Saturday. SXU won the first game over Grand View in a pitcher's duel that ended with a score of 1-0. In the late game against William Penn, the Cougars pulled away from the Statesmen in the fifth inning for a 9-1 victory.

Nonnemacher was nearly flawless in her seven-inning shutout victory Saturday against Grand View, which moved her to 14-4 on the year. She allowed just two hits and three walks with 10 strikeouts on the day. With Saint Xavier leading 1-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Nonnemacher got herself out of a tight jam by striking out the final two batters of the game with the bases loaded to secure the one-run victory. Sophomore third baseman Kate Mollohan (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) brought home the Cougars' go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning when she posted a RBI single to left field. It was one of just three total hits in the game for the Cougars.

Brown also threw a gem in the late game against William Penn giving up just four hits, a run (unearned) and a walk with five strikeouts. She moves to 13-6 with the victory this spring. Senior first baseman Courtney Murphy (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) and sophomore designated player Jamie Reed (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X) both homered in the game for Saint Xavier. Murphy racked up three RBI, while Reed drove in two runs for the Cougars. SXU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on back-to-back RBI doubles by senior left fielder Lisa Gryczewski (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) and Brown. In the seventh, the Cougars scored seven runs to pull away for good led by Murphy and Reed's homers.

Saint Xavier (30-12 overall/14-4 CCAC) hosts NCAA Division II University of Wisconsin-Parkside (Wis.) for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 26. The first game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start at SXU Softball Field in Chicago.
