Kansas City, Mo. - Following another magnificent season that saw a second straight perfect regular season slate (11-0), a second Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League title and a return trip to the semifinals of the NAIA Football Championship Series, the Saint Xavier University football team earned the No. 2 spot on the 2011 NAIA Football Coaches' Spring Top 25 Poll released Monday by the NAIA national office in Kansas City, Mo. The Cougars went 13-1 overall for the second straight year and rolled through the postseason before falling to eventual national champion Carroll College (Mont.) in semifinals action. Carroll tops the poll claiming all 15 of the first-place votes after winning its sixth national title in the last nine years.

"Preseason rankings can be misleading since a lot of it is based on what you did the previous year, but it's certainly a great compliment to our program," said SXU head football coach Mike Feminis. "I'm sure our guys will use this as a motivating factor in their summer workouts as they prepare for camp in August and they'll need to because everyone on our schedule will be gunning for us."

Saint Xavier opens its 2011 campaign at home with a MSFA crossover game against Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) on Saturday, September 3. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
