Joliet, Ill. -
Saint Xavier University sophomore
designated player Jamie Reed (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X) was named the
Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Player of the Week
after leading the Cougars to a 4-2 record over six games last week, including a
conference sweep of No. 13 ranked Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.), when the
weekly honors were released by the league office Tuesday. Reed racked up eight
hits on the week, including two doubles and a pair of home runs. It is the second
time this season that SXU has landed either the conference player or pitcher of
the week recognition with junior shortstop Ashley Hunter (Metamora,
Ill./Metamora) claiming the player of the week honor last week.
Reed batted .421 (8-for-19)
on the week with five runs scored and six RBI. She also had a slugging percentage of .842 over
the stretch. In the doubleheader against
No. 13 Olivet Nazarene, Reed hit a homer in each game, including a three-run shot
in SXU's 7-4 victory in the nightcap. Reed
leads the Cougars with eight home runs this season, all in the month of April,
and is currently ranked fifth in the conference in total homers.
Saint Xavier (25-11
overall/11-3 CCAC) heads to Michigan City, Ind., on Wednesday, April 20, to
take on conference foe Purdue University-North Central (Ind.). The first game of the doubleheader is
scheduled for 3 p.m. at Patriot Park.
