Joliet, Ill. - The Saint Xavier University men's track team braved 35-degree weather to compete in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Championships outdoor track meet this weekend at Joliet Memorial Stadium in Joliet, Ill. Highlights for the Cougars include a conference winning shot-put throw of 45'2" by junior Michael Johnson (Harvey, Ill./Thornton). Freshman Nick Pesek (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) took second overall in the 100-meter dash in 11.27 seconds, while the 4x800 relay team of juniors Rich Eber (Oak Lawn, Ill./Illinois State/Brother Rice), Daniel Hasty (Oak Lawn, Ill./Brother Rice) and Andy Peters (Yellow Springs, Ohio/Yellow Springs) as well as sophomore Matt Herrmann (Oak Lawn, Ill./University of Iowa/Brother Rice) also took second place.

"It is very difficult to evaluate how well we ran," said SXU men's track coach Ed McAllister. "The bitter cold definitely slowed all the times. However, I saw some good things. Nick Pesek ran extremely tough in the 100, Kenney had a nice 800 and Michael Johnson continues to impress. We are done with our easier meets and now must be able to step up our times accordingly."

Saint Xavier is off until Friday, April 29, when the team travels to Hillsdale, Mich., to take part in the prestigious Gina Relays. The meet is scheduled for a 9 a.m.
