Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University freshman outfielder Chris Klein (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Baseball Player of the Week after leading the Cougars to a 5-1 record, including five conference victories, last week when the weekly honors were released by the league office Tuesday. Klein posted 11 hits on the week, including four doubles, a triple and two home runs for eight RBI and 11 runs scored. It is the first time this season that the SXU baseball team has netted either the conference player or pitcher of the week recognition.
Klein recorded at least one hit in every single game he played in on the week. In Saint Xavier's three-game series with Holy Cross College (Ind.), he went 7-of-11 with two home runs and six RBI. Klein batted .500 (11-for-22) over the week's six-game stretch with a 1.045 slugging percentage. In a 6-5 win over Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.), he compiled a double and a triple with one RBI.
Saint Xavier (20-17-1 overall/12-3CCAC) heads to Bensenville, Ill., this afternoon for a conference doubleheader against Robert Morris University (Ill.). The first game of the pair starts at 3 p.m.
