Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University junior shortstop Ashley Hunter (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Player of the Week after leading her team to a 5-1 record over six conference games last week when the weekly honors were released by the league office Tuesday. Hunter racked up 10 hits on the week, including four doubles and a pair of home runs. It is the first time this season that SXU has landed either the conference player or pitcher of the week recognition.
Hunter batted .588 as she helped the Cougars go 5-1 on the week with seven RBI. She had a hit in every game she played in with her best performance coming against Trinity International University (Ill.). In the first game of the doubleheader, she went a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI. She had a double and a homer, while stealing one base. She also had a pair of RBI against Trinity International in game two and Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.).
Saint Xavier (22-10 overall/9-3 CCAC) hosts No. 13 ranked and conference leading Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) at SXU Softball Field in Chicago on Thursday, April 14. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
