CHICAGO - Freshman right-hander Scott Vachon (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) kept the Holy Cross bats in check most of Saturday afternoon in leading Saint Xavier University to a 7-1 victory over the visiting Saints in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) baseball action at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago. Vachon threw the first seven innings of the nine-inning affair and allowed just three hits, one unearned run and a pair of walks with nine strikeouts. With the win, he improves his season record to 4-2. SXU is now 17-17-1 overall this season and owns a 9-3 mark in conference play.

Freshman left fielder Chris Klein (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) led the offensive attack for Saint Xavier Saturday racking up three hits, including a home run and a double. He also finished with two runs scored and a RBI. Senior catcher Jim Pipolo (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) also had a nice day at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Red-shirt junior shortstop Austin Lehmann (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) did a little bit of everything for the Cougars Saturday going 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and then coming in to close things out on the mound. Lehmann threw the final two frames for SXU giving up two hits, no runs and no walks with four strikeouts. The Cougars built a 4-0 lead after five innings of play before the Saints scored their lone run in the top of the sixth. SXU scored a run in each of the final three frames to pull away for good.
