CHICAGO - Freshman left fielder Chris Klein (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) went 3-for-7 on the day with a double, triple, four runs scored and two RBI to help lead Saint Xavier University to a doubleheader sweep of Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) baseball action Tuesday at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago. The Cougars (16-16-1 overall/8-3 CCAC) also got a pair of solid starts from sophomore right-handers Mike Stirling (Thornton, Ill./Mount Carmel) and Lucas Fritsch (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg). Stirling threw all seven innings of the first game, a 6-5 victory, and allowed 10 hits, five runs (three earned) and no walks, while fanning six batters to improve to 3-1 on the year. Fritsch went the first five frames of the 9-5 win in the nightcap giving up six hits, four runs (two earned) and no walks with four strikeouts to move to 2-2 this season.

The Cougars put four runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning of Tuesday's opener to take an early 4-0 advantage paced by a two-RBI single by sophomore catcher Tony O'Shea (Valparaiso, Ind./Mount Carmel). The Wolves would chip away at the deficit scoring a run in both the top of the third and fourth innings before SXU added two more in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI groundout and a sacrifice fly. A pair of infield errors by Saint Xavier in the top of the seventh made things interesting in the final inning allowing Cardinal Stritch to plate three runs. However, SXU would end the game on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded to capture the 6-5 victory. O'Shea led the offense in the first game going 3-for-3 with a RBI.

Senior catcher Jim Pipolo (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) had the hot bat in game two going 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. After a pair of SXU fielding errors helped CSU score two runs in the top of the second, the offense took control of the game scoring nine unanswered runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take over the game for good. The Cougars scattered nine hits in the game with Pipolo leading the way. Klein, sophomore first baseman Mike Pokers (Lansing, Ill./Andrean) and senior right fielder Joe Dispensa (Chicago, Ill./St. Joseph's College/Mesa CC/St. Rita) each scored two runs for SXU in the nightcap.

Saint Xavier (16-16-1 overall/8-3 CCAC) takes a break from conference play and will host Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) for a game on Friday, April 8. The nine-inning affair will start at 3:30 p.m. at Ferrell Field in Chicago.
