CHICAGO - The Saint Xavier University women's soccer program will host its Second Annual 7-on-7 "Spring Fling" Soccer Tournament on Saturday, April 16, at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field on SXU's Chicago campus. The teams participating in this year's "Spring Fling" are also helping to raise money for "Girls on the Run," a charity which helps young women find role models and live an active, positive lifestyle. The fund raising portion of the event will be handled by Jen Fickett, the women's soccer head coach of Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.).
This year's event includes eight teams: Lewis University (Ill.), Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.), Trinity Christian College (Ill.), University of St. Francis (Ill.), Judson University (Ill.), Robert Morris University (Ill.), Benedictine University (Ill.) and host Saint Xavier University. Fourteen tournament teams have been made up from these eight squads. There will also be an elimination tournament using the earlier games for seeding. Each team is guaranteed three 35-minute matches.
The event includes: referees, field managers, public address announcements, clock operators, lights, concessions and "Girls on the Run" T-shirts for individuals who donate over $50. The 7-on-7 tournament is a fun and competitive event for college teams during the off-season. It also gives these teams a chance to join together and raise money for a good cause.
