CHICAGO - Sophomore outside hitter Aaron Porter (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) finished with a match-best 22 kills, but it was one of the few bright spots for Saint Xavier University Wednesday night. The Cougars (6-14 overall) dropped a key Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC) match to visiting Robert Morris University (Ill.) in five sets at the Shannon Center in Chicago. RMU won the opening set, 25-22, before SXU claimed the next two by scores of 25-15 and 25-20. However, the Cougars dropped the fourth set, 25-22, and the Eagles took advantage quickly in the fifth and deciding set riding an early lead to a 15-10 victory.

With the loss, Saint Xavier drops to 5-6 in the Eastern Division of the MAMVIC, while Robert Morris improves to 2-11 in the league and 4-15 overall. The Eagles were led offensively by freshman outside hitter Andrew Gleason, who finished with 16 kills on the night. SXU freshman setter Kevin Maxwell (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) tallied 45 assists in the match, while freshman libero Johnathan Hernandez (Berwyn, Ill./Morton CC/Morton) led the Cougars with 25 digs. Maxwell and sophomore middle blocker Joe Mooney (Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard) each finished with four total blocks for SXU as well.

Saint Xavier (6-14 overall/5-6 MAMVIC) hosts a pair of matches on Friday, March 25, taking on MAMVIC foe Siena Heights University (Mich.) at 3 p.m. at Palos Courts in Palos Heights, Ill., before matching up against non-conference foe Carthage College (Wis.) at 7 p.m. at the Shannon Center.
