Grand Island, Neb. - Head coach Bob Hallberg and the No. 12 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team has received one of the four No. 3 seeds in next week's 2011 NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championships in Jackson, Tenn., when the seeds and pairings for the event were officially released by the Victory Sports Network (VSN) Wednesday evening. The 32-team, single-elimination tournament is divided into four, eight-team brackets with teams seeded one through eight based off the final NAIA Ratings Poll released earlier today. The Cougars will match up against No. 6 seed Shawnee State (Ohio) in first-round action on Wednesday, March 16, with a scheduled 8:30 a.m. (central) tip-off at Oman Arena in Jackson.

Shawnee State comes into the national tournament with a 24-9 overall record. The Bears received an at-large bid for this year's NAIA National Championships by finishing as the runner-up in the Mid-South Conference (MSC). Shawnee State lost to No. 2 ranked Campbellsville (KY.), 72-58, in the championship game of the MSC Tournament Sunday afternoon.

Saint Xavier has had an impressive season thus far posting a 24-6 overall record and winning the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) regular season and tournament titles. This marks the ninth straight season that SXU has advanced to the NAIA National Championships, which begins on Wednesday, March 16. The Cougars have advanced to the "Sweet 16" in four of the past five seasons.
