CHICAGO - Behind a match-best 11 kills by freshman outside
hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest), the Saint Xavier
University men's volleyball team had no trouble defeating Mid-America Men's
Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC) foe Moody Bible Institute (Ill.)
Tuesday evening at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (5-11 overall/5-4 MAMVIC) won the
match in three straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-9 and 25-19. SXU was efficient with its attacks throughout
the night ringing up attack percentages of .333 in the first set, .364 in the
second set and .233 in the final set.
hitter Matt Yerkes (Palos Heights, Ill./Marist) finished the match with four
kills, while freshman setter Kevin Maxwell (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice)
recorded 31 set assists. Freshmen middle
blockers Jacob Siska (Hometown, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) and Matt Lewis
(Antioch, Ill./Lakes) each posted two service aces in the match as well. Freshmen middle blockers Mike Capone (Lyons,
Ill./Morton CC/Morton) and John O'Connell (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice)
each had three total blocks. Capone had
a solo stop and two block assists, while O'Connell finished with three block
assists on the night.
Saint Xavier (5-11
overall/5-4 MAMVIC) heads up to Milwaukee tomorrow night to take on MAMVIC
opponent Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.).
The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
