CHICAGO - The Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team suffered two tough losses last Thursday night against fellow Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC) opponent Warner Southern University (Fla.) at Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) in Davenport, Iowa. Despite some strong individual performances, they were unable to put it all together and pick up a victory. Sophomore outside hitter Aaron Porter (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) and freshman setter Kevin Maxwell (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) were strong offensively for the Cougars. Porter finished with 10 kills in the first match and four in the second, while Maxwell tallied 19 assists in the opener and 27 in the second. WSU won both matches in three sets. The first had scores of 25-23, 28-26 and 25-21 and the second was 27-25, 25-20 and 25-12.

Freshman middle blocker Mike Capone (Lyons, Ill./Morton CC/Morton HS), sophomore outside hitter Joe Zahalka (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) and sophomore right side hitter Evan Muys (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) were also solid offensively for the Cougars with each posting five kills in the first match. Sophomore middle blocker Joe Mooney (Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard) stepped up for SXU in the second match also posting five kills.
