Women's Soccer - Fri, Oct. 7, 2005
CHICAGO - Late second-half goals by senior midfielder Jen Belmonte (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) and junior forward Angie Holmes (Shorewood, Ill./Providence Catholic), respectively, provided just enough offense for the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team to earn its seventh straight win with a 2-1 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victory over Trinity Christian College (Ill.) Friday at SXU Stadium in Chicago. The Cougars improve to 11-2-1 overall and sit in second place behind Trinity International University (Ill.) with a 6-1 mark in the CCAC standings.

Following a scoreless first half, Trinity Christian picked up the game's first goal when freshman midfielder Sarah Faasse slipped the ball into the right corner of the net to give TCC a 1-0 lead with 27:04 remaining in the game. However, just over nine minutes later, Belmonte tied the game on a direct free kick that sailed right over the outstretched fingers of Trolls junior goalkeeper Katie Visser.

Holmes recorded the game-winning goal for the second straight game with 13:44 left to play in regulation on an unassisted play. Senior goalkeeper Melissa Painter (Elk Grove, Calif./William Penn University) finished with 10 saves for the Cougars. SXU outshot the Trolls, 12-11, in the game.

Saint Xavier (11-2-1 overall/6-1 CCAC) heads to Indiana on Thursday, October 13, to face CCAC foe Calumet College (Ind.). Game time is set for 3 p.m.
