CHICAGO - Sophomore right side hitter Evan Muys (Orland
Park, Ill./Sandburg) posted 12 kills and seven digs on the night, but the Saint
Xavier University men's volleyball team lost to Mid-America Men's Volleyball
Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC) foe Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.)
Wednesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The match lasted four sets with CSU taking
the opening one, 25-19, before SXU evened things up with a 25-20 second
set. However, the Wolves closed out the
match with the next two frames by scores of 25-23 and 25-21, respectively. It was the first loss at home for the
Cougars, who fall to 4-9 overall and 4-2 in the MAMVIC.
blocker Mike Capone (Lyons, Ill./Morton CC/Morton) also had a nice night for
Saint Xavier finishing with 10 kills and five block assists. Sophomore outside hitter Aaron Porter
(Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) contributed eight kills and seven digs
for the Cougars, while freshman setter Kevin Maxwell (Chicago, Ill./Brother
Rice) chipped in 33 set assists.
Cardinal Stritch was led offensively by sophomore outside hitter Adam
Cosson with 12 kills.
Saint Xavier (4-9
overall/4-2 MAMVIC) heads to Davenport, Iowa, tomorrow night to take on Warner
Southern University (Fla.) for pair of MAMVIC match-ups on the campus of Saint
Ambrose University (Iowa). SXU will play
both conference matches against Warner Southern Thursday evening with the first
one starting at 5 p.m. and the second at 7 p.m.
