Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University senior guard
Shalonda Young (Chicago, Ill./Crane Tech) has earned her fourth Chicagoland
Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Basketball Division I Player of
the Week award of the season and the ninth for the team when the honor was
released by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Young was instrumental in two big conference
wins for the Cougars last week, including a 111-97 home victory over then No.
12 ranked Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.).
In addition, SXU defeated Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB), a team
receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, on the road by a score of 68-62
In the game against No.12 Olivet Nazarene, Young posted 22
points, eight rebounds, four assists and five steals. She played in 27 minutes and shot 8-of-13
from the floor as Saint Xavier tied Olivet Nazarene for first place in the CCAC
standings. In 28 minutes of play against
IUSB, Young had 15 points, four rebounds and three steals. She made five shots from the floor and went
5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
Saint Xavier (20-6
overall/7-1 CCAC) continues its regular season and conference slate this
evening with a home game against rival University of St. Francis (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in
