CHICAGO - Shannon Spethman, a senior
midfielder/defender at Saint Pius X High School from Lincoln, Neb., recently signed
a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint
Xavier University as a member of the Cougar women's soccer program. Spethman is currently coached by John Colborn
and Steve Andersen at Saint Pius X and will join the SXU roster in the fall of
2011. She is projected to join the
Cougars as either a midfielder or defender next fall.
Spethman is the daughter of Scott and Mary Spethman of
Lincoln, Neb. She plans to study both
education and psychology starting next fall at Saint Xavier University. SXU women's soccer coach Jeremy Ekeler likes
the "upside" that Shannon brings to his program.
"Shannon is an exciting recruit for many
reasons," said Ekeler."She maintains our Nebraska ties, is a
tireless worker on the field and in the classroom and has a tremendous upside
for us in the middle of the field. She
also has big-game experience playing deep into the Nebraska State Tournament in
both 2008 and 2009. Shannon is a great
personality and I know our players will love having her join the program."
