Joliet, Ill. - For the eighth time this season, a Saint Xavier University women's basketball player has earned the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Basketball Division I Player of the Week award when senior point guard Alex Barone (Joliet, Ill./Marian Catholic) claimed the honor Tuesday afternoon. Barone helped the Cougars net a pair of big conference victories over University of St. Francis (Ill.) and Robert Morris University, respectively. It is the second time this season that Barone has earned the weekly award.

With two solid performances on the court that helped the No. 18 ranked Cougars stay in the hunt for a CCAC championship, Barone averaged 15.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 5.0 steals per game. She lay in 18 points to go along with six rebounds, five assists and five steals in a 76-61 road win over St. Francis in Joliet last Thursday. She then followed that effort with 13 points, five assists and five steals in a 71-60 home victory over Robert Morris.

Saint Xavier (16-6 overall/4-1 CCAC) continues its regular season slate on Wednesday, February 9, with a non-conference game against Trinity Christian College (Ill.). The match-up is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
