CHICAGO - A six-minute scoring drought in the closing minutes of regulation proved costly to Saint Xavier University as Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB) closed out the final 8:30 of play with a 21-4 scoring run to take a 66-53 victory in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Sophomore guard Scott Taloff (Bedford Park, Ill./St. Laurence) was the lone Cougar to score in double figures Saturday posting 10 points to go along with three assists. SXU loses its third straight game and falls to 15-8 overall and 1-3 in CCAC play with the setback, while IUSB improves to 10-12 on the year and 2-1 in the conference standings.

The Cougar offense looked fine in the first half with the team hitting 12 of its 22 shot attempts from the field (55 percent) to take a one-point lead, 29-28, into the halftime break. However, the second half was another story with Saint Xavier shooting just 32 percent (9-for-28), including two of its 13 attempts from three-point range (15 percent). Despite the offense struggling late, SXU trailed by just six points, 59-53, following a lay-up by senior guard DeVon Chandler (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville). However, a desperation three-pointer to beat the shot clock by Titans sophomore guard Steven Heatherly with 1:16 to play ended any SXU attempt at a late rally. Heatherly led all scorers in Saturday's game with 23 points.

Saint Xavier (15-8 overall/1-3 CCAC) takes to the road and returns to action on Wednesday, February 2, with a conference game against No. 24 ranked University of St. Francis (Ill.). The match-up is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Joliet, Ill.
