Hammond, Ind. - Senior guard Stan Mayfield (Snellville, Ga./McKendree University/Shiloh) scored a game-best 26 points, but the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team could not erase a 13-point half-time deficit, 45-32, and fell to Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) by a score of 88-80 Saturday afternoon in Hammond, Ind. The Cougars (15-6 overall) had difficulty rebounding the basketball with the Peregrines holding a 46-30 advantage on the boards. Freshman forward Mark Peters (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) also had a nice game for SXU finishing with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists. Peters shot an impressive 11-for-13 from the field Saturday.
Saint Xavier (15-6 overall/1-1 CCAC) heads to Bourbonnais, Ill., on Tuesday, January 25, for a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) road game against Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
