CHICAGO - Freshman outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) led Saint Xavier University to its first victory of the season defeating Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC) opponent Moody Bible Institute (Ill.) Wednesday night in downtown Chicago. Cousin finished with a team-best 11 kills as the Cougars took the match in three straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-21. With the victory, SXU improves to 1-1 overall on the young season as well as 1-1 in the MAMVIC standings.

Freshman setter Kevin Maxwell (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) provided the offensive set-up finishing with 22 assists for the Cougars. Sophomore outside hitter Aaron Porter (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) chipped in five kills and a pair of service aces toward the winning effort, while freshman middle blocker John O'Connell (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) was solid defensively posting five total blocks (three solos, two assists). Sophomore outside hitter Matt Yerkes (Palos Heights, Ill./Marist) scooped up a team-high seven digs for SXU in the match.

Saint Xavier (1-1 overall/1-0 MAMVIC) plays its home opener on Friday, January 28, with a non-conference match against Clarke University (Iowa). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
