Freshman guard Brad Karp
(Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) led the way again as the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team pulled away for a 91-70 victory over Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) Tuesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Karp finished with 22 points in the game as the Cougars took advantage of 13 first-half turnovers by the visiting Panthers to build a 43-32 halftime advantage. As a team, SXU shot an impressive 55 percent (32-for-58) from the field and dished out 26 assists in Tuesday's ballgame
Freshman forward Mark Peters (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) also had a big night for Saint Xavier hitting six of his eight shot attempts for 17 points. Senior guard DeVon Chandler (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) provided the Cougars with a big lift off the bench contributing 13 points on 6-for-7 shooting from the field. Junior guard Ed Gilgenbach (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) recorded nine points and a game-best eight assists. PUNC was led by junior guard Nick Neal with game-highs of 23 points and eight assists. SXU scored 52 points in the paint and 20 points off PUNC's 20 turnovers.
Saint Xavier (14-5 overall/1-1 CCAC) wraps up a three-game home stand with a non-conference game against Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) on Thursday, January 20. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Shannon Center.
