For the third time this season, Saint Xavier University junior guard Marissa Young
(Monroe, Wis./St. Joseph's College/Monroe) was named the CCAC Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week when the conference office released the honor Tuesday. Young had a huge week in leading the Cougars to a second-place finish at the eight-team SXU Holiday Tournament last week and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.
Her best game of the week came against Grace College (Ind.) as she played the entire 40 minutes, while canning 27 points and eight rebounds with three steals. Saint Xavier held off Grace, 69-59, as she went 8-of-18 from the field. For the week, Young averaged 20.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and three steals per game. She also had 16 points against Spring Hill College (Ala.) and 19 versus University of Saint Francis (Ind.). Saint Xavier defeated Spring Hill, 73-56, but fell to Saint Francis, 75-72, in the tournament championship. SXU is currently No. 5 in the NAIA Division I National Poll with a 10-5 record.
Saint Xavier (10-5 overall) takes on NCAA Division I Chicago State University (Ill.) in an exhibition game on Thursday, January 6. The road exhibition will start at 7 p.m. in Chicago.
