Daytona Beach, Fla. - Junior guards Marissa Young (Monroe, Wis./St. Joseph's College/Monroe) and Michelle Tourtillott (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) each scored 14 points, but it was not nearly enough to overcome a slow start for No. 5 ranked Saint Xavier University in a 72-54 loss to No. 19 Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) Sunday evening at the ICI Center at the Daytona Beach Shootout in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Cougars (7-3 overall) shot just 19 percent from the field (6-for-31) in first half action and scored just 18 points to fall behind by 12 points, 30-18, at the halftime break. Rebounding also a factor throughout Sunday's game with LWC posting 64 boards to SXU's 31.
Senior point guard Alex Barone (Joliet, Ill./Marian Catholic) and freshman forward Chrissy Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) each chipped in seven points for Saint Xavier Sunday. Young also posted team-bests of nine rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Cougars. Senior forward Viktoria Krell led the Blue Raiders in the big win finishing with game-bests of 24 points and 19 rebounds, while sophomore forward Ashley Rainey also recorded a double-double performance of 16 points and 16 boards. Lindsey Wilson shot 56 percent (15-for-27) from the floor in the second half to scored 42 points after halftime and pull away for the victory.
Saint Xavier (7-3 overall) finishes up its Florida trip with another match-up against No. 6 ranked Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) on Tuesday, December 21. The game is scheduled for a 10 a.m. (central) tip-off.
