CHICAGO - Freshman guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) and sophomore guard Scott Taloff (Bedford Park, Ill./St. Laurence) combined for 42 points and 15 rebounds to push Saint Xavier University past the century mark for the second time this season in a 105-87 win over Judson University (Ill.) Tuesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (10-2 overall) shot 52 percent (39-for-75) from the field and scored 58 of its points in the paint to pull away in the second half. Karp finished with game-bests of 24 points and nine rebounds, while Taloff contributed 18 points and six boards toward the victory.

Senior guard Stan Mayfield (Snellville, Ga./McKendree University/Shiloh) provided SXU with a huge lift off the bench recording 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals on the night. Junior forward Zach Opheim (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) also scored in double figures for the Cougars with 10 points. Judson University was led by sophomore guard Jason Sotira with 21 points off 7-for-9 shooting from beyond the three-point arc. The game was tight in the first half with Saint Xavier taking a six-point lead into the half, 54-48, after both teams shot over 50 percent from the field. However in the second half, the Cougars increased their defensive pressure and racked up nine steals, which helped lead to 11 second-half turnovers by the Eagles. The miscues paid off for SXU with 33 of its points in the game coming off turnovers.

Saint Xavier (10-2 overall/0-1 CCAC) hosts the Midwest Tournament starting on Monday, December 20. The Cougars will open the three-day, eight-team event with a 2 p.m. game against Mount Marty College (S.D.).
