Waco, Texas - Saint Xavier University senior Mike Maher (Plainfield, Ill./Providence Catholic) was one of just two wide receivers nationwide named to the 2010 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA)-NAIA Coaches' All-America Team when the team was announced by the AFCA Selection Committee Tuesday. The 25-player team highlights 11 offensive players, 11 defensive players and three specialists (placekicker, punter, and all-purpose player) from around the NAIA and all selections are voted on and decided by NAIA football coaches. This year marks just the fifth time since the AFCA began choosing an All-America Team in 1945 that an All-NAIA Team was selected (first in 2006).

"We've had a long line of outstanding wide receivers in our program, but Mike may be the best out of all of them," said SXU football coach Mike Feminis. "I've had eight or nine NFL scouts come in to see Mike and they were all impressed with his skill level, but even more so, the energy and determination that he showed on film. Everyone knows how talented Mike is, but he's probably the most competitive player I've ever coached and just refuses to quit. I still don't know how he played in our semifinal game against Carroll, because there was no way he was more than 50 or 60 percent. He played on pure guts and still had seven or eight catches. Mike's just one of those special players who doesn't come around very often."

Maher wrapped up his impressive collegiate career earlier this month by setting several of the program's single-season marks including 116 receptions, 1,470 receiving yards, 20 receiving touchdowns, 23 total touchdowns, 2,110 all-purpose yards and two kickoff returns for touchdowns. He also set several SXU career records with 349 receptions, 4,487 receiving yards, 48 receiving touchdowns, 51 total touchdowns and 5,954 all-purpose yards. Maher joins linebacker Mike Lally (2009), defensive back Chris Rodgers (2008), punter/kicker Shane Longest (2007) and wide receiver Andy Ricca (2006) as the only five Saint Xavier football players to be named to the AFCA-NAIA Coaches' All-America Team since 2006.
