Kansas City, Mo. - Without playing a game over the past week, the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team moved up one spot to No. 5 in the latest edition of the NAIA Women's Division I Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll released Monday afternoon by the national office in Kansas City, Mo. The Cougars (7-2 overall) had been ranked at No. 6 in both the preseason poll and last week's first official 2010-11 poll (Dec. 6) before making today's jump into the top five. Both of SXU's losses this season have come against top-ranked foes in No. 1 ranked Union University (Tenn.), 71-63, and No. 9 Saint Ambrose University (Iowa), 85-73.

"This ranking just shows the tradition of excellence that our program has maintained nationally in the NAIA over the last few years," said Saint Xavier University women's basketball coach Bob Hallberg. "We lost some key seniors from last year's team that went 31-2 and finished in the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Tournament, but our returning players continued to work hard and have kept us playing at a high level this season as well. This group knows what it takes to win."

Saint Xavier (7-2 overall) heads to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the Daytona Beach Shootout, which begins on Sunday, December 19. The Cougars open the event with a 4 p.m. (central) game against No. 15 ranked Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.).
