Men's Soccer - Wed, Dec. 8, 2010

Kansas City, Mo. - Saint Xavier University junior forward Matt Klancic (Aurora, Ill./Bowling Green State University/Waubonsie Valley) was recently named to the 2010 NAIA Men's Soccer All-America Honorable Mention Team as selected by the NAIA Men's Soccer All-America Selection Committee in conjunction with the 2010 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship. Klancic had a stellar year leading the team in both goals scored (10) and total points (27). He finished among the top players in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) as well placing fourth in points per game (1.42) and fifth in goals scored (10).

"I'm really happy for Matt, because I know how hard he worked to try and maximize his talents and abilities," said SXU men's soccer coach Ed Vucinic. "There's no doubt he is deserving and a key piece to our team, but he will be the first to tell you that a major part of his success was the skill and hard work of the guys he played with. I know he is happier about the recognition Saint Xavier University will get because of this award than receiving the award itself."

Saint Xavier had one of its best seasons to date finishing 15-6-1 overall and qualifying for the opening round of the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship by upsetting No. 1 seed and then-No. 25 ranked Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), 2-1, in overtime in the championship game of the 2010 CCAC Men's Soccer Tournament. It was the program's first appearance in the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship since its start in 1991.
