Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University junior guard Marissa Young (Monroe, Wis./St. Joseph's College/Monroe) was named the Chicagoland
Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Basketball Division I Player of
the Week Tuesday after a huge performance in a win over Holy Cross College
(Ind.) last week. Young scored a
career-best 28 points in the game and also tallied four rebounds, three assists
and four steals as the No. 6 ranked Cougars picked up a 92-61 victory in their
only game of the week. It was the second
time in the past three weeks that she has earned the conference's weekly honor.
Young is currently second in the entire NAIA in scoring
averaging 23.17 points a game. She is
also fourth in the nation in steals per game with a 4.50 average. Young has helped lead the Cougars to a 5-1
mark to open the 2010-11 campaign. SXU
has claimed three of the first four CCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
recognitions with Young capturing two (November 16 & 30) and senior guard
Shalonda Young (Chicago, Ill./Crane Tech) winning the first one of the season
back on November 9.
Saint Xavier (5-1
overall) hosts Judson University (Ill.) tonight for a non-conference match-up
at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The
game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
