Huntington, Ind. - A late first-half scoring run by
Huntington University (Ind.) proved to be too much for Saint Xavier University
to recover from as the Cougars dropped their first game of the year, 96-76,
Saturday afternoon in Huntington, Ind. Sophomore
point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) finished with a team-best
18 points to lead the Cougars on 8-for-16 shooting from the field. With SXU trailing by two, 30-28, with just
over five minutes to play before halftime, the Foresters closed out the half
with a 21-5 run to take a 51-33 lead into the locker room. The Cougars (8-1 overall) could not bounce
back trailing by as many as 28 points in second-half action.
forward Jake Listebarger (Harvard, Ill./McHenry County College/Richmond-Burton)
came off the bench to contribute 14 points and four rebounds for SXU, while senior
guard Stan Mayfield (Grayson, Ga./McKendree University/Shiloh) and freshman
forward Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) each chipped in 11 points. The Cougars had difficulty with taking care
of the ball committing 19 turnovers in the game. Huntington shot 51 percent (36-for-70) from
the floor in the game, including 53 percent (20-for-38) in the first half.
Xavier (8-1 overall) heads downtown on Saturday, December 4, to open its
conference slate against new Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC)
member Roosevelt University (Ill.). The
game will be played on the campus of Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) at the
Keating Sports Center with a tip-off of 3 p.m.
