Vancouver, Wash. -
Saint Xavier University junior Rachael Dean (Lindenhurst, Ill./Judson
University/Lakes) finished No. 12 out of 331 of the NAIA's best runners with an
impressive time of 18:17 on a 5K course (5,000 meters) at the 2010 NAIA Cross
Country National Championships Saturday morning at the Fort Vancouver National
Historical Site in Vancouver, Wash. With
her 12th place finish, Dean was named a NAIA All-American for the
2010 season. Freshman Jordan Wallace
(Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) also competed individually for the Cougars
Saturday at the national meet finishing No. 137 with a time of 19:36. SXU women's cross country coach Lisa Ebel was
elated about both performances.
"I am so proud of both of these girls and what they were
able to accomplish this season," said Ebel.
"This is the icing on the cake for Rachael, because I knew all season
long that she was one of the NAIA top cross country runners and this just
supplies the proof. Jordan is only a
freshman and to qualify for Nationals in just your first season is an
impressive feat in itself. Both of these
girls have worked hard all season and I am happy to see them get a chance to race
at the highest level."
As a team, the Cougars ended their season with a
second-place finish at the 2010 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference
(CCAC) Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 6. Due to their top 10 individual finishes at
the conference meet, Dean and Wallace both qualified to represent Saint Xavier
at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships this weekend.
