CHICAGO - Behind a game-best 25 points by senior guard Marco Samimy (Peterson Woods, Ill./CICS-Northtown Academy), the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team stayed perfect at 7-0 overall with a big 127-69 win over East-West University (Ill.) in the final game of the two-day SXU Classic Saturday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Samimy was one of seven Cougars who scored in double figures hitting eight of his 15 shot attempts from the field, including four of his five three-point tries. SXU was impressive in nearly every facet of the game shooting a blistering 63 percent (42-for-67) and winning the rebounding battle, 53-29.

Next up for the Cougars was sophomore forward Scott Taloff (Bedford Park, Ill./St. Laurence), who finished with 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting. Junior forward Brian Sherwood (Oak Forest, Ill./Judson University/Oak Forest) and freshman guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) each scored 13 points Saturday, while senior forward Jake Listebarger (Harvard, Ill./McHenry County CC/Richmond-Burton) contributed 12 points toward the victory. Sophomore point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) posted 11 points, three assists and three steals for SXU and junior guard Ed Gilgenbach (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) wrapped up the double-digit scorers with 10 points. The Cougars never trailed in the game and jumped out to a 22-4 lead in the opening seven minutes of play.

Saint Xavier (7-0 overall) heads to South Bend, Ind., on Tuesday, November 23, for a non-conference game against Holy Cross College (Ind.). Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. central time.
