CHICAGO - In his 24th season at the helm of the Saint Xavier University women's volleyball program, head coach Robert Heersema recently surpassed career win No. 500 this season. The milestone victory came during a tournament at McKendree University (Ill.) on Saturday, October 30, as the Cougars defeated the Iowa Wesleyan College Tigers in three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-13. Heersema did not have long to savor the feat as SXU immediately followed the match with another tournament win against Central Methodist University (Mo.) for career victory No. 501. His overall career record now stands at 505-502 over 24 seasons, all at Saint Xavier University.

"This is kind of bittersweet, because it is a nice milestone to achieve, but it also means I have been coaching for way too long," joked Heersema. "In all seriousness though, I have been fortunate to work with and coach a lot of great people over the years here at Saint Xavier University and I could not ask for a better place to come and work every day. I hope I can get another 500 wins here."

Saint Xavier (23-13 overall/7-4 CCAC) is making its first NAIA Volleyball Championship appearance since 2000 this season after winning the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament last week. The Cougars will take on No. 21 Bellevue University (Neb.) in Opening Round action on Saturday, November 20, at 2 p.m. in Bellevue, Neb.
