- Just minutes after
claiming their first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC)
Tournament crown since 2000, the Saint Xavier University women's volleyball
team learned it had four players named to the 2010 All-CCAC Volleyball
Team late Saturday evening. Junior
middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) and sophomore libero
Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) both earned spots on
the first team, while sophomore outside hitters Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst,
Ill./York Community) and Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community)
represented SXU on the conference's second team squad.
Scudder leads the team in blocks with 90 total stops,
including 23 solos. She has also posted
345 kills and an attack percentage of .274 over 36 matches thus far this year. Bowe has been stellar defensively for the
Cougars leading the way with 524 digs and 33 service aces. Mullaney leads Saint Xavier with 431 kills
and is second overall in digs as well with 347.
Knudsen has also been tough offensively with 411 kills to go along with
her team-leading 50 service aces.
Saint Xavier is
23-13 overall this season and finished fourth in the CCAC final regular-season
standings with a 7-4 mark. The Cougars
took the No. 4 seed into last week's CCAC Volleyball Tournament and upset No. 1
seed Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) and No. 2 seed Trinity Christian College
(Ill.) to claim their first tournament title since 2000. SXU heads to Bellevue, Neb., on Saturday,
November 20, to continue its season in the NAIA Volleyball National
Championship Opening Round. The match is
set for a 2 p.m. start.
