Joliet, Ill. -Just minutes after winning the Chicagoland
Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament and earning the program's
first national tournament bid, the No. 24 ranked Saint Xavier University men's
soccer team got even more good news Saturday night when five of its players
earned spots on the 2010 All-CCAC Men's Soccer Team. Junior defender Dan Cross (Gravesend,
England/Axton Chase) and junior forward Matt Klancic (Aurora, Ill./Bowling
Green State University/Waubonsie Valley) were both unanimous selections on the
first team, while junior midfielders Adrian Guzman (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle)
and Al Palar (Zabrze, Poland/Plainfield Central) also earned first team spots. Freshman keeper Kyle Held (Palatine,
Ill./Palatine) garnered second team honors for SXU.
Klancic is the team's scoring leader with 27 points off 10
goals and seven assists this season.
Cross has started every game this fall and been the team's defensive
specialist as well as scoring two goals.
Palar leads the Cougars with 12 assists in addition to his five goals,
while Guzman has started all 21 games thus far and posted six goals and six
assists. Held has had a stellar first
season with SXU and leads the team with 109 saves and 1.09 goals-against
Saint Xavier takes a 15-5-1 overall record into Saturday's NAIA National
Championship Opening Round game against No. 13 Grand View University (Iowa) at
2 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa. The No. 2
seeded Cougars upset No. 1 seed and then-No. 25 ranked Illinois Institute of
Technology (IIT), 2-1, in overtime Saturday to earn the national bid.
