Kansas City, Mo. - Earning the program's second NAIA Volleyball National Championship appearance and first since 2000, the Saint Xavier University women's volleyball team will take on No. 21 Bellevue University (Neb.) in the 2010 NAIA Volleyball National Championship Opening Round on Saturday, November 20, in Bellevue, Neb. The Cougars are one of 24 squads that will face off in opening round play, while the top 11 ranked qualifying teams, plus host school Briar Cliff University (Iowa), will automatically receive a bye for the remainder of the National Championship, which takes place in Sioux City, Iowa, starting on Tuesday, November 30. The opening round match is tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in Bellevue, Neb.

"We have not seen Bellevue University in awhile, but I know they have a great record (33-11 overall) and won a very tough conference this year," said SXU women's volleyball coach Robert Heersema. "They will have a big advantage playing on their home court, but we have been used to winning big matches on the road the past couple of weeks and will rise to the occasion."

Saint Xavier (23-13 overall/7-4 CCAC) took the No. 4 seed into last week's Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Volleyball Tournament and pulled off back-to-back upsets over No. 1 seed Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) and No. 2 Trinity Christian College, respectively, to earn the national bid. It is the first time the Cougars have won the conference tournament since 2000.
