Men's Soccer - Mon, Nov. 15, 2010

Kansas City, Mo. - Making the program's first appearance at the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship, the No. 23 ranked Saint Xavier University men's soccer team will face off against a familiar opponent this weekend drawing No. 13 Grand View University (Iowa) for the 30-team NAIA Championship Opening Round on Saturday, November 20. The Cougars will head to Des Moines, Iowa, for a 2 p.m. meeting Saturday with the Vikings, a team they lost to by a score of 3-2 back on August 28 at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. SXU men's soccer coach Ed Vucinic is excited about the challenge that Grand View presents his squad.

"We know we have our work cut out for us against Grand View, but you don't make it to this level of postseason play without facing great teams," said Vucinic. "Grand View is a hard-working team with a lot of talent and one of the top teams in the Midwest year-in and year-out. A win against them on their home field will be a huge challenge for us, but we are playing pretty well at the moment."

Saint Xavier (15-5-1 overall/8-1-1 CCAC) earned its automatic bid to the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship by winning the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament Saturday with a 2-1 victory in overtime over No. 1 seed Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). The Cougars are riding a six-game win streak and making their first national tournament appearance since the program was established in 1991.
