South Bend, Ind. - Surpassing 1,000 points for her career, senior forward Rachel Merkell (Munster, Ind./Munster) scored 17 points Saturday for the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team in its 64-61 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) road win over Indiana University-South Bend in South Bend, Ind. WIth the win, the Cougars improve to 15-10 overall and 6-1 in the CCAC.

Besides Merkell, junior forward Jacki DiMaggio (Bartlett, Ill./Glenbard North) also scored 17 points in the game as well as collecting eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) finished in double figures as well in scoring with 12 points. Down 38-29 in the second half, SXU got rolling late in the second half and was able to avenge its 77-73 overtime loss to IUSB in the CCAC opener on January 11 at the Shannon Center in Chicago.

The Cougars continue their conference slate at home on Tuesday, February 8, against Purdue University-Calumet. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
