CHICAGO - Sophomore outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) finished with 17 kills and 23 digs to lead the No. 4 seeded Saint Xavier University volleyball team to a victory over No. 5 seed Robert Morris University (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament action Tuesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars won the match in four sets by scores of 25-21, 25-23, 25-27 and 25-17. With the win, SXU improves to 21-13 overall this season and advances to semifinals action on Thursday, November 11. The Eagles end the year with an overall mark of 26-13.

All four sets were tight throughout with the first three decided by a total of eight points. Including Mullaney, the Cougars had three players finish with double-digit kill totals with junior middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) posting 14 kills and sophomore outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) contributing 13 toward the winning effort. The Eagles were led offensively by junior setter Melissa Joyce. Joyce finished with team-bests of 13 kills and 17 assists Tuesday. Freshman middle hitter Kimberly Smith also played well for Robert Morris chipping in 11 kills and eight total blocks (four solo, four assists). Junior Jaclyn Major (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) handled the setting duties for SXU finishing with 40 assists, while sophomore libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) was tough defensively with a match-best 30 digs.

Saint Xavier (21-13 overall/7-4 CCAC) now advances to play No. 1 seed Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in semifinals action Thursday in Bourbonnais, Ill. The postseason match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
