Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University sophomore
point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) earned the first
Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Division I
Player of the Week award of the new season after a nice outing in SXU's overtime
win over Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.) in its season opener on
October 30. Green posted game-bests of 19
points and seven assists to lead the Cougars over the century mark in a 105-93
victory over the visiting Sea Lions. The
scoring performance tied a career-best for the young point guard, who hit 19
points in two previous games as a freshman.
Green shot 4-for-9 from the field and hit eight of his 10
free-throw attempts as well in the opener.
He hit four free throws and had two assists in the final two minutes of
the extra period to help seal the win.
In fact, the Cougars out-scored the Sea Lions, 15-3, in overtime behind
Green's solid play.
Saint Xavier (1-0
overall) takes on Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) on the road tonight at
the Crimson Wave Athletic Facility in Whiting, Ind. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
