Kansas City, Mo. - Saint Xavier University senior cornerback Pat Geary (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) was named the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week when the national office released the Week 10 winners for the 2010 season late Monday. Geary was instrumental in the No. 3 ranked Cougars' impressive 30-6 win over No. 7 University of Saint Francis (Ind.) at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago over the weekend. It was the first time this season that a player from SXU has won the prestigious national honor in any of the three categories (offensive, defensive or special teams).

Geary finished Saturday's game with a team-high tying nine total tackles (six solo, three assists), including two tackles for losses. He also recorded two pass break-ups and an interception. His pick came in the end zone and ended a long, 17-play drive by USF to open the second half that took nine minutes off the clock and had SXU holding a 20-0 lead. The six-point performance by Saint Francis was its lowest scoring output in a regular-season game since the 1999 season opener against Valparaiso University (Ind.).

Saint Xavier (11-0 overall/7-0 MSFA) has a bye this weekend after capturing the MSFA Mideast League title and securing a perfect regular season for the second straight year. The Cougars await their seed and pairing for the upcoming 2010 NAIA Championship Series, which begins on Saturday, November 20. The postseason pairings are scheduled to be released by the NAIA on Sunday, November 14, at 2 p.m. central time.
