CHICAGO - Behind a pair of header goals, including the game-winner in overtime, by senior forward Ryan Clemens (Midlothian, Ill./Trinity Christian College/Moraine Valley CC/Lincoln-Way East), the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team got a thrilling 2-1 victory over University of St. Francis (Ill.) in first round action of the 2010 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament Saturday evening at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The No. 2 seeded Cougars advance to semifinals action this Wednesday with an overall record of 13-5-1, while the No. 7 seeded Fighting Saints end the year at 5-14-0.

The first Clemens' goals was set up by an assist from junior midfielder Adrian Guzman (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle). After 75 minutes of scoreless action to start the game, Clemens found a seam in the USF defense and headed the ball in off a cross from Guzman. With just 57 seconds to play in regulation, the Fighting Saints would tie things up off an unassisted goal in the front of the net by sophomore midfielder Luke Zeiler. However, just over a minute into the overtime period, Clemens scored again off a cross by senior midfielder Ben Johnson (Woodridge, Ill./Western Illinois University/Naperville North) to end the game off another beautiful cross by Guzman. Freshman keeper Kyle Held (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) had another brilliant outing in goal for the Cougars making three saves.

Saint Xavier (13-5-1 overall/8-1-1 CCAC) advances to play the winner of tonight's Olivet Nazarene University-Robert Morris University match-up on Wednesday, November 10. The Cougars will host the CCAC semifinals game at 7 p.m. at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field.
