CHICAGO - Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) had 25 kills and 15 digs to help lead the Saint Xavier University women‘s volleyball team to a thrilling victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Trinity International University (Ill.) Tuesday on "Senior/Parents Night" at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (20-13 overall/7-4 CCAC) won the match in evenly matched sets by scores of 30-32, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23 and 18-16. Sophomore outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) also had a big night for SXU Tuesday finishing with 22 kills, 14 digs and four service aces.
Junior setter Jaclyn Major (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) recorded 68 assists and 17 digs for Saint Xavier, while sophomore libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) led the defense posting 28 digs in the match. In the final regular-season home match of her career, senior outside hitter Danielle Malloy (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) also left her mark recording six kills, four digs and three block assists. Trailing 13-11 in the deciding fifth set, SXU rallied back scoring seven of the last 10 points to claim the match.
Saint Xavier (20-13 overall/7-4 CCAC) awaits its seed and opponent for the upcoming CCAC Tournament, which begins on Friday, November 5. There is currently a four-team tie for fourth place, including the Cougars, which needs to be figured out using conference tie-breaking policies to determine tournament seeding.
