CHICAGO - Shannon Lauret, a senior outfielder/catcher at Zion-Benton High School in Zion, Ill., has signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar softball program. The Beach Park, Ill., native will be a freshman at SXU in the fall of 2011 and will compete for playing time either in the outfield or behind the plate during the 2012 season.

Lauret is the daughter of Kevin and Dawn Lauret of Beach Park. She is currently coached by Rick Rymer at Zion-Benton High School. Lauret is looking to pursue a degree in biology starting next year at Saint Xavier University.

"Shannon is a five-tool player and I cannot wait to see her in an SXU uniform," said Saint Xavier University softball coach Myra Minuskin.  "Very few athletes can lead-off or hit fourth in a line-up, but Shannon has that ability. She will play in our outfield and also do some catching for our program."
