Deerfield, Ill. - A penalty kick goal by junior midfielder Al Palar (Zabrze, Poland/Plainfield Central) in the 81st minute of play lifted Saint Xavier University to a thrilling 2-1 road win over Trinity International University (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) men's soccer action Tuesday afternoon in Deerfield, Ill. The Cougars trailed early on after giving up a goal in the sixth minute of regulation, but scored the final two goals of the game to claim the victory and improve to 10-5-1 overall this season. Freshman keeper Kyle Held (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) played well in goal for SXU recording five saves.

TIU junior defender Vasily Giannakopoulos put his team ahead just over six minutes into play with a bending shot set up by assists from junior defender Kenneth Stoner and freshman midfielder Jared Ventura, respectively. In the 18th minute, senior forward Ryan Clemens (Midlothian, Ill./Trinity Christian College/Moraine Valley CC/Lincoln-Way East) took advantage of a beautiful cross by Palar and found the back of the net to tie things up, 1-1. Palar would then notch the game-winning score off the penalty kick with less than nine minutes remaining in regulation to help secure the conference victory.

Saint Xavier (10-5-1 overall/6-1-1 CCAC) hosts Trinity Christian College (Ill.) on Saturday, October 30, for another conference match-up. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
