Kansas City, Mo. - With its season-opening exhibition against NCAA Division I University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) just over a week away, the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team secured a No. 6 ranking when the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released its Women's Division I Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll from the national office Monday evening. The Cougars, who return two starters from last year's squad, are coming off their best season to date after going 31-2 overall, winning the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) with a 9-1 mark, posting a No. 2 national ranking and earning their first appearance in the quarterfinals of the 2010 NAIA Women's Basketball Division I National Championships.

"The reason they call it a preseason poll is because it has more to do with last year's accomplishments than with this year," said Hallberg. "We still have to go out, play hard and prove we are one of the best women's basketball teams in the NAIA. However, raters have seen how consistently successful our program has been over the past few years and ranked us accordingly. We want to continue that tradition of excellence."

Saint Xavier opens its 2010-11 campaign on Wednesday, November 3, with an exhibition against University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. The game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. The Cougars play their first official game of the new season at home against No. 25 ranked McKendree University (Ill.) on Saturday, November 6. The home opener is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
