Grand Rapids, Mich. -
Three members of the Saint Xavier University women's cross country team logged
personal-best times as the squad finished fifth out of 25 NAIA teams at the 2010
NAIA Great Lakes Challenge XC Invitational Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich. Junior Rachael Dean (Lindenhurst, Ill./Judson
University/Lakes), freshman Jordan Wallace (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North)
and junior Jackie Ott (Island Lake, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) all shattered
their previous personal-best times and the team time (sum of team's top five
runners) was 48 seconds faster than the previous school record team time.
"I was very pleased with the overall performance of our team
Saturday," said SXU women's cross country coach Lisa Ebel. "To have three runners all achieve
personal-best times in the same race is a major accomplishment. We saw a lot of good NAIA competition at this
meet, including our entire conference, so this gives us a good indication of
where we are as a team."
Dean finished third overall out of 271 runners at the
Invitational with a time of 17:58 on the 5K (5,000 meters) course. Wallace came in at No. 18 overall with an
18:42 clocking, while Ott was 36th at 19:20. Rounding out the scorers for the Cougars
Saturday were seniors Jade Braden (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) and Kelly Malone (Oak Lawn, Ill./Mother McAuley) in 63rd and 67th
place, respectively. Braden had a time
of 19:54, while Malone finished at 19:58.
Both times were season-bests for both runners.
Saint Xavier takes this weekend off before heading to
Elgin, Ill., on Saturday, November 6, for the 2010 Chicagoland Collegiate
Athletic Conference (CCAC) Championships.
The championship meet will be hosted by Judson University (Ill.) and
held at Spartan Meadows Golf Course in Elgin.
The women's race is scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. start.
